Our History

Based on the teachings, philosophy, and experience of founder Anthony Ways, CYLAB was founded in 2018 with a few concepts in mind:
  1. The justice system needs reform
  2. Young people need support from leaders that have shared their experiences
  3. Important lessons not found in the typical public education curriculum must be taught to life poor people to the next level of social mobility
  4. Those lessons include ensuring people know who they are [leadership], what they can do [ownership, how to do it [law], and with whom to do it with [community]

Founder Anthony Ways brought together a special network of people that now serve as board members or advisors to the organization. The group shared their experiences and methods to form the organization. In September 2018, CYLAB began it workshop series with 18 individual classes.

CYLAB is supported by the Dare Academy Executive Board
  1. Anthony Ways, CANDO, WCMD
  2. Nye Gillespie, Dare to Dance
  3. Pamela Grayson-Baltimore, MSW, I Dare to Care

Who Benefits

The beneficiaries will be the young people that participate, their parents, the community, and the justice system. Young people will learn lessons. Their parents will benefit from having children that are more aware of their individual contribution to the world. The community will benefit by being safer and having a young population that is more aware of what it offers as services, programs, and spaces.

CHANGE STARTS WITH US

CYLAB focus in on youth and young adults – with a target 13-24. The lessons themselves will help teach young people how to avoid conflict, be leaders in their community, provide them with a like-minded positive peers to build social relationships with, allow the staff to be coaches [not mentors] to help guide young people through their issues.

Training – young people will be trained on leadership, community, business, and justice. We have experts speak on these issues, share activities, live conversations, skits, and post videos of the classes to the community.
